Lindale Independent School District (LISD)

The Lindale Independent School District encompasses 184 square miles in the northern part of Smith County where it serves Lindale as well as the communities of Carroll, Mt. Sylvan, Swan, and Hide-A-Way Lake.

Lindale is known for its strong support of its schools which are rich in local heritage, tradition, and a strong value system. That commitment continues to bear fruit. Lindale students consistently receive high marks for academics, vocational programs, athletics, band and scholastic competitions.

In the 2010 Texas Education Association accountability ratings, Lindale ISD was rated Recognized, the second-highest possible accountability rating.

Tyler Junior College (Lindale Campus) (TJC-Lindale) - TJC-Lindale began offering courses in Lindale 2008 out of two classrooms in leased storefront space in the Identity Center.  Over the past few years, TJC has made a major commitment to Lindale to develop a North Campus in the community.

  • Today the school has five classrooms, two of which are computer labs. There is also clinical lab space for our Vocational Nursing  program.
  • They offer a Core Complete certificate program, vocational nursing program, Basic Nurses Aid program, Medical Administration Certificate program, and a Phlebotomy technician program.
  • The enrollment for the fall 2011 was 487, which was an increase of 34 percent in our general education courses over the same semester, previous year.
  • Eventually the college wants to construct a North Campus in Lindale on land dedicated to the college.

Tyler Junior College - Since 1926, Tyler Junior College has been fulfilling three promises to its students and the Tyler area by providing a quality education, a vibrant student life and service to the community.

The University of Texas at Tyler - is part of the prestigious University of Texas System that includes nine university and six health institutions located throughout the state. Founded in 1971, UT Tyler today enrolls nearly 7,000 students and in 2010 awarded 1,509 degrees. Our beautiful 210-acre Tyler campus is nestled along a lake, surrounded by thick pine and oak forests, providing a picturesque location for study and recreation. We also maintain regional campuses in Palestine and Longview Texas.

Texas College - A historically black college providing a liberal arts education since 1894, exists to help people succeed by assisting them in developing their skills and their self-confidence, as well as enlarging their perspectives on life. We are dedicated to providing citizens of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds with the opportunity for life-long learning.

Texas College believes in motivating our students, urging them to be active in setting and achieving their goals. Students are encouraged to utilize all of our facilities; to seek extra help from our faculty; and to converse with our counselors and other dedicated staff members

  • Was founded in 1894 by a group of ministers of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME Church) and is still affiliated with the CME church.
  • Offers 12 baccalaureate degree programs within four divisions:  Business and Social Sciences; General Studies and Humanities; Education; and Natural and Computational Science.  Majors may be declared in: Biology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, English, Interdisciplinary Studies, Liberal Studies, Mathematics, Music, Religion, Social Work, and Sociology.  The College offers two associate of arts degrees in Early Childhood Education and General Studies.  Texas College also has an Alternative Certification Teacher Education program for persons who have already earned a bachelor’s degree.  The SUCCESS Program is a specially designed degree completion program for working adults who want to enhance their professional growth and development with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.
  • The school operates two semesters, Fall and Spring, and  the student to faculty ratio is 20:1.

 

Lindale Library

The new and modern Lindale Library opened.in 2002 (debt-free). A short two years later, it was nominated for the "Best Small Rural Libriary in America" in 2004. 

This beautiful 10,000-sq.-ft builidng holds a catalog of over 57,500 items, including reference books, fiction, inspirational fiction, non-fiction, and books on CDs and DVDs for both children and adults.

Fully automated, the Library also offers patrons 10 computers and Internet service--at no charge. Recently it was selected by the Gates Foundation as only one of three libraries in the state of Texas to attend a prestigious Public Library Association confernece in Boston focused on "best practices" technology use in the rural library. 

The Library's many prorgrams include Story Time, Summer Reading Program, English as a Second Language, Accelerated Reader Program, and others.
